What we expect in the Premier League title race in the next weeks

13/02/2024

The Premier League title race was blown wide open after Arsenal defeated Liverpool two weekends ago, and it is now a three-horse race.

The Reds could have moved eight points clear of the Gunners at the top of the league standings if the Gunners had lost that game, leaving Liverpool and Manchester City to challenge for the title.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side showed great steeliness and determination to defeat the league leaders at the Emirates.

They followed it up with a 6-0 victory against West Ham at the London Stadium and are now firmly in the title race.

When you win against the top side in the league, it is difficult for anyone to stop you, and Arsenal is now on its way to winning the Premier League.

The Gunners were in the title race last season and topped the standings by around ten points, with a few weeks left before the end of the campaign.

However, they showed great inexperience and dropped points at an important stage of the term and eventually lost the title to City.

This term, they have shown more than enough experience and the desire to become the champions of England.

Liverpool were dismal in the last campaign, but they top the league standings after 24 games, although they have played a game more than Manchester City.

City is still the favourite to be the champions of England by the end of this season, but we expects this to be a three-horse race between these teams, and there will be several changes in results and the league standings in the next few weeks.

Arsenal to stay in the race until the end

Arsenal has not won the Premier League in 20 years and are eager to ensure that changes this summer.

They have done remarkably to challenge for the title in back to back seasons because most of us believed their performance last season was just a flash in the pan.

But Mikel Arteta’s men are still in the title race this term and look more mature than a year ago.

They started 2024 in fine fashion and won their first four games in the Premier League after suffering a defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Arsenal’s stunning run of form this year shows they now have what it takes to stay in a title race for a long time, and it won’t be easy to stop them this year.

However, Liverpool and Manchester City are also in top shape, so Premier League ticket buyers can expect to see Arsenal in the title race until the end of the season.

Mo Salah to keep Liverpool at the top

Salah left Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table to represent Egypt at the AFCON in January, and we expected them to struggle without the Egyptian goal machine.

However, Liverpool have done well in his absence, with Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez stepping up brilliantly to maintain their title charge.

Salah is on the comeback trail and is expected to be back before the end of February, which will be a significant boost for Liverpool.

Salah played 20 league games before leaving and scored 14 goals while providing 8 assists for his teammates.

This stat makes him one of the leading scorers in all the European leagues, and his return will make Liverpool inevitably better than they are now.

Liverpool are still at the top of the league standings, even though it could change when Manchester City wins the outstanding game.

But Salah’s return to the team means Liverpool could win all their remaining matches of the campaign.

The Reds will also welcome City to Anfield in this second half of the term, and if they win that home game, it could be the game-changer for them in the title race.

Salah is the man for the big occasion, and his participation in that fixture means the Reds have a huge advantage.

Manchester City to drop more points

Manchester City have roared back to life in the title race after some struggles in the first half of the campaign.

City won the treble last season and looked unprepared to defend their title towards the end of the last year.

They had lost Kevin de Bruyne since August, and Erling Haaland joined him on the treatment table for several months.

While they struggled, the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal moved ahead of City, but fortunately for the champions, the gap between them and the top sides in the league was not much.

City is now back and will be at the top of the standings if they win their outstanding match.

However, no club has ever won four consecutive Premier League titles, and this City team will struggle to break that record.

The Citizens have dropped points against some really unfancied opponents this term, and we expect them to drop even more in the coming weeks.

Their game against Liverpool at Anfield is another teasing encounter and they could be beaten by the Reds in front of an always-loud Anfield crowd.

Aston Villa to finish outside the top four

Aston Villa has had a brilliant season and has been one of the outsiders to win the Premier League this term.

The Villans have done well under Unai Emery and were tipped to be champions after a fine run of form towards the end of last year.

However, things have since begun to unravel, and the gap between them and the top of the league table is widening.

We are at the stage of the Premier League season when boys are separated from men, and Villa is showing signs of struggling to cope with pressure.

The Villans are still overperforming, but we do not expect things to get better for them, instead, they will begin to struggle even more.

At this stage of the term, teams who have more experience like Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea, will make a late push to finish inside the top four and this will cost Villa their place among the Champions League campaigners.

In the next few weeks, we expect many changes to the Premier League table, but most importantly, the title race will remain open to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.
