Why Liverpool will win the Premier League this season

14/12/2023

After a slow and inconsistent start, Liverpool has become the top club on the Premier League table.

The Reds were so poor last season that it cost them a place in the top four, which came as a shock to most of us.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been around the top two of English football since their rivalry with City began, so when they finished the last campaign outside the top four, most fans were shocked.

But their problem was obvious and they knew they had to fix it. Most of their midfielders in the last campaign had become injury-prone, leaving them to rely on inexperienced players like Stefan Bajčetić.

The result spoke for itself as Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League and were knocked out of every competition with ease.

In the summer, they bolstered their squad with four new midfielders, as Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch joined the club.

Liverpool’s summer had started comically and it seemed like it would be a disaster after losing Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea.

However, they turned it around and made those signings and it seems like a blessing in disguise that Chelsea beat them to sign those average players.

Fans who have invested in Liverpool tickets are having a better season than most football supporters and would feel proud that they have backed the right team.

Can Liverpool become the champions of England next summer? We think so, and here are some reasons:

Best attacking depth in the Premier League

Premier League clubs have money to invest in every area of their squad, but there is hardly an area as important as the attack.

Goalkeepers and defenders can prevent your team from conceding goals, but if you don’t score some, you will never win games.

Liverpool has a complete team in every department this term, with their attack standing out since last season.

The Reds are an attacking team and know the importance of having players who can put the ball in the back of the net all the time.

Most football fans will know Mohamed Salah as the main attacker at the club, but Liverpool is more than a one-man show and has several other attackers in its group.

With Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Ben Doak, there is hardly another Premier League club that comes close to them in terms of quality of attackers.

Salah has remained superb and has now crossed 200 goals for the club, while Jota is one of the best finishers in England, and there is hardly a striker who gets into good positions like Nunez.

If the Uruguayan reduces the number of goals that he misses, he will become unstoppable, adding more goals to Liverpool’s Premier League quest this season.

Consistency of performance

Liverpool were plagued by inconsistency last season, but they have managed to eliminate it this term and it is a reason they are at the top of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were cruelly beaten at Spurs in a very controversial manner earlier in the season, but they did not let that affect them and have since recovered to put in some fantastic performance.

To move to the top of the Premier League table, they won four of five games, the other match being a draw against Manchester City.

This Liverpool team has found some consistency and we watched as they worked hard to ensure that they won games against Fulham, Sheffield United, and Crystal Palace despite not starting those fixtures very well.

This is what separates champions from others, and if the Reds continue to win games even when they do not play well, we expect to see them at the top for a long time as they did in the 2019/2020 season.

Midfield rebuild at an advanced stage

As we pointed out earlier, Liverpool had to rebuild their team after a disastrous season and they released the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, among other players.

Their entire current midfield core was installed this summer, with all the regulars signed in the last transfer window.

Normally, when a team makes that much change to its playing squad, it will need time to get up to speed.

But that hasn’t been the case for Liverpool, as their new players have settled quickly and are leading them towards the title.

Their rebuild is at an advanced stage already, as they seem to have signed players that will make instant impacts.

They are enjoying the top performance that we would have expected when the players have spent at least one season at Anfield.

This fast-tracks the rebuild, and they now have a team that can easily become champions in the summer because of the quality of their output.

Struggles of Arsenal and Manchester City

Arsenal and Manchester City battled for the Premier League title last season, while Liverpool laboured to finish inside the top four.

Both clubs started this term competing for the top spot as well, but they have struggled in recent weeks, which allowed the Reds to move to the top.

City has been surprisingly weak this term, but it is understandable, as no team has won the Premier League for four consecutive seasons.

Expecting them to win it again is asking a lot from the men from Manchester and they will not come close to retaining their crown because of their current form.

Arsenal has also been inconsistent and that is expected because Mikel Arteta’s side remains largely inexperienced, which eventually cost them the league title last season.

The Gunners will remain in the race because they have a good manager and some fantastic players, but Liverpool has an experienced coach and squad who have been used to winning trophies in recent campaigns.

Virgil van Dijk is back to his best

Virgil van Dijk has struggled to get back to his best since that famous injury inflicted on him by Jordan Pickford years back, but the Dutchman seems to be getting close to his best levels now.

With Ibrahima Konate and other defenders at Liverpool struggling with injury, Van Dijk’s return to form has been noticeable.

The Dutchman is one of the world’s best players on his day and Liverpool has been desperate for their captain to go back to his best form.

That is happening before our eyes this season and it will be a reason that the Reds will remain in the Premier League title race.

Mohamed Salah is unstoppable.

Mohamed Salah was the subject of a huge transfer bid from Saudi Arabia in the summer, but Liverpool kept their man despite receiving up to $200 million to sell him.

The decision to turn down such an offer was shocking for a player who is already in his 30s, but Liverpool made a smart choice.

The Egyptian has remained as reliable as ever for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in his first 16 league games for them.

Salah is getting better with age and this could be the campaign that he wins his second Premier League title for Liverpool.

The Reds know they can trust their frontman and if he keeps scoring this devastatingly, we can be sure that Liverpool will remain at the top of the Premier League table and be champions next summer.

Arsenal and Manchester City will recover from their struggles, but it might be too late if Liverpool continues to win against all odds because that is the way titles are won.
