The best midfielders that will light up Euro 2024

06/08/2023

Euro 2024 will be one of the most exciting competitions to watch next year as fans wait for another international tournament they will enjoy.

The Euros is one of the best competitions in the world and usually brings together some of the finest players we can find around.

Despite being delayed for one year because of covid-19, the last edition of the competition served up some memorable footballing experiences.

England reached the final with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane proving throughout the competition that they are one of the best players in the world.

However, they could not defeat an Italy team that had failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

That final showed one reason we love the Euros. England had all the advantages and were favourites on paper.

The Three Lions had some of the best players in the world, and the game was played in front of a packed Wembley Stadium, which meant England had arguably their best chance to win an international competition in decades.

The Three Lions had fans dreaming about winning that Euros, but it did not end as they expected, with the team losing to an unfancied Italy side that had been the surprise of the competition.

Euro 2024 will likely bring another exciting winner, and we know every player on the pitch must do their best for their nation.

One of the most important roles in a football team is the midfield, and we expect some fine midfielders to emerge and lead their nation to victory in the next Euros like Manuel Locatelli and Jorginho did for Italy at the last Euros.

These players will make fans buy Euro tickets if their country qualifies for the competition because they are some of the most exciting in the continent.

Sandro Tonali, Italy

Tonali just joined Newcastle United in a deal that makes him the most expensive Italian player of all time, and there is a good reason why the Magpies added him to their squad.

The youngster is one of the few Italian players who could fit in well in the Premier League because of how he plays and is expected to thrive under Eddie Howe.

Tonali can make a tackle, pick a pass and hold on to possession superbly, which is why he has been compared to Andrea Pirlo.

He will become the key midfielder for Italy at the Euros, especially if Marco Verratti leaves PSG for Saudi Arabia.

Declan Rice, England

Rice has already proven that he is one of the best midfielders in the England national team, with some superb performances for the Three Lions at the last World Cup.

The midfielder won the last Europa Conference League with West Ham before securing a summer move to Arsenal.

At the Emirates, he will compete in the Champions League, and win the Premier League, so he is now competing against some of the finest players in the world.

This will improve him, and he might also help England win Euro 2024.

Jude Bellingham, England

Bellingham was in superb form at the last World as he combined well with Rice to make the Three Lions sharp in midfield.

The youngster has been an amazing player since he broke onto the scene at Birmingham City and moved from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid this summer.

In Madrid, he would have some of the world’s best players as teammates, which will automatically improve him.

Bellingham was a creative force for England at the Euros as he thrived on playing in front of the more defensive Rice.

If things go to plan, he will win some trophies with Madrid this season and go to the Euros in superb form, which could lead to England ending their decades-long wait to win another medal.

Eduardo Camavinga, France

Camavinga has proven to be one of the finest midfielders in the world and has won every trophy possible at just 20.

The Frenchman broke onto the scene as a 16-year-old at Rennes and has not stopped since after securing a move to Real Madrid.

He is one of the players Los Blancos are building their new midfield around and has proven his versatility and vitality for them and the France national team.

Camavinga did not play much for Les Bleus at the last World Cup because Didier Deschamps has an embarrassment of riches in midfield.

However, at Euro 2024, we expect him to be one of the key players for his country and one of the first names on the team sheet as well.

The Frenchman keeps getting better every time you watch him, and he might be the reason France wins another Euro.

Pedri, Spain

Pedri was named to the Team of the Tournament at Euro 2020 when he was just 18, and the midfielder has continued to develop.

He is still just 20, but he runs the show every weekend in Barcelona’s matches and has been pivotal to the growth of the current Spain national team.

The youngster will definitely be on the plane to Germany for the next Euro if he is not injured, and he might lead La Roja to victory.

Spain won the last Nations League, and they will see it as the best possible way to prepare to win the next Euros. With Pedri in good shape, that might happen.

Gavi, Spain

Gavi is the current Golden Boy award holder after taking it from his Barcelona teammate Pedri.

The pair are the latest jewel in Barca and the Spain national team, and both will be on the plane to the Euros.

Gavi has continued to develop quickly and is one of the first names on the team sheet at Xavi Hernandez’s Barca.

The midfielder is also a key player for Spain, despite the abundance of midfielders in the camp of La Roja.

We expect him to prove his worth and play a pivotal role for Spain in the next Euros.

Jamal Musiala, Germany

Germany has struggled in international football since they won the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, and it has been baffling.

This is because they still have some of the world’s best players in their pool and continue to develop more.

After suffering heartbreaks at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, the Germans know they cannot do badly at Euro 2024, which will be played in their home.

Musiala is one player that can help them end their dismal run at international competitions.

The attacking midfielder could have played for the England or Nigerian national team because of his heritage, but chose Germany and would be eager to taste international victory with them.

The Bayern Munich star is one of the finest players from the host country, and the Bavarians will dominate the Bundesliga again.

If that happens, he will head into the Euros in top form and should help his country do well in the competition.

Luka Modric, Croatia

Modric has refused to retire from international football, but the Euro 2024 should be his last tournament for the Croatia national team.

The midfielder has remained a key player for Real Madrid and captains the national team; we expect him to go out of the international stage in style.

Croatia keeps heading into international competitions as underdogs despite their impressive performances at the last few World Cups.

They reached the final in Russia in 2018 and were semi-finalists at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The next Euros is a good time for them to completely shock us by winning a competition against all odds, and Modric will be a key player for them.
