Who will be the Euro 2024 top scorer?

08/01/2024

Euro 2024 is closer than we think as it kicks off in the summer after the hectic European football season.

Players from around the world who represent European nations will be on the lookout to make an impression.

At Euro 2020, we saw some players deliver fine performances for their countries as England and Italy met in the final of the tournament.

The Three Lions had done very well to reach that final and it seemed they would finally end their wait for a major trophy.

However, that did not happen as Italy won after a tough game that was decided on penalties.

2024 is a year for another team to try and win the competition, with Germany hosting what should be a very good tournament.

They hosted the 2006 World Cup and it was a fine competition by many standards. Italy won that competition, can they retain their Euro 2020 crown?

That will be one of the hardest things to do as several nations are prepared to take over from them and the Italians barely did well in the qualifiers.

The team that wins the competition will likely have one standout goal-scorer, but there are many top players that will challenge for the top scorer award at Euro 2024.

Anyone who buys a Euro 2024 ticket knows he will watch some spectacular football, but who are the favourites to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024?

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal

Ronaldo has remained evergreen after moving to Saudi Arabia from Europe, a move that has attracted several top players to the Pro League.

He has maintained his high standards and ended 2023 as the leading scorer in the world, which is remarkable for a 38-year-old.

Ronaldo is the leading scorer in international men's football and has broken several goal-scoring records in his career.

The FIFA World Cup in 2026 could be on his mind, but this might realistically be the last international tournament he has a chance to win for Portugal.

He won the Euro 2016 in France and knows how to win competitions, so the young players in the Portugal squad will be looking up to him to inspire them to win the tournament.

The only way Ronaldo knows how to make an impact is to score goals and we expect him to be among the leading scorers at Euro 2024.

Kylian Mbappe, France

Mbappe was not in the France team that reached the final of Euro 2016 but helped them to win the World Cup two years later.

He has been a hero for the team since then and now captains Les Bleus, he will want to win the Euros.

There is little doubt that Mbappe is one of the finest attackers in the world and he faces a very important summer in his career.

He would become a free agent and has the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool following him closely.

His performance in this competition will likely affect the teams he attracts when he ends his stay on the books of PSG.

Having scored a hattrick in the final of the last World Cup, Mbappe is one of the clear favourites to win the Golden Boot and he might help France to also become the champions of Europe again.

Romelu Lukaku, Belgium

Another top striker who we expect so much from at Euro 2024 is Lukaku who is already the leading scorer for the Belgian national team with 83 strikes and he will likely improve that number before the Euros.

When you consider the clubs that Lukaku has played for, you will have very little doubt that he is a world-class player.

He has also worked under some of the world’s best managers and is spending this season on loan at AS Roma after missing out on a move to Juventus in the summer.

Lukaku was a part of the Inter Milan team that reached the final of the Champions League last season and has also played for Chelsea and Manchester United.

He is now one of the world’s most recognisable strikers and scores almost every time he plays for Belgium.

From his generation, the likes of Eden Hazard have already retired and this could be his final international competition for the Red Devils, he will want to leave his mark.

Harry Kane, England

The new goal machine of Bayern Munich will be eager to be the top scorer at Euro 2024 and there is little doubt that he can achieve it.

The Englishman is the record scorer for Tottenham and the England national team and has been banging in the goals for fun since he moved to Munich.

The Bavarians were crying for a goalscorer after losing Robert Lewandowski and had to wait until this season to fill that void.

Kane is already 30, but he is the type of player that you can bank on to still play active football for the next seven years.

He takes good care of his body and has a very fine injury record, so he would be around for a long time.

On the international scene, he won the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and he was a driving force for the England team at Euro 2020 and the last World Cup in Qatar.

England is desperate to win a trophy and their record scorer will arrive at Euro 2024 in fine goalscoring shape, considering the season he is having in Bavaria.

Alvaro Morata, Spain

Morata is one player that divides opinion, but one certain thing is that he is a world-class striker who can do a lot of damage on his day.

Spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Juventus brought about mixed success, but he is having a good time at Atletico de Madrid.

He scored 13 times in 36 league games last season, which is not such an impressive stat, but in this campaign, the former Chelsea flop already has 12 goals in 18 league games.

On the international scene, he has remained one of the main strikers for Spain and has scored 13 times in the last three years, including four in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

He will be looking to improve on the three goals he scored for his national team at Euro 2020.

Federico Chiesa, Italy

Chiesa was one of Italy’s key players at Euro 2020 and he may be the one who made it easier for them to be champions.

He started the competition as a bench warmer but took his chance and broke into the team as the competition progressed.

Chiesa was so good that he singlehandedly won some games for the Azzurri before they reached the final.

He was injured, but his teammates ensured they left England as the winners of the competition.

He struggles to score many goals at Juventus because of Max Allegri’s style of play, but Chiesa comes alive when he plays for Italy and Luciano Spalletti is the perfect manager for him.

Euro 2024 offers him a chance to show he is a player who can be trusted to help Italy retain their title and we fancy him to score some goals.
