Strikers Manchester United can sign this summer

25/04/2023

Manchester United is expected to sign a new striker this summer as they are not likely to add Wout Werghost to their squad permanently when this term finishes.

The Dutchman has been average during his loan spell at the club from Burnley so far, and the Red Devils will win nothing with him as their leading striker.

Erik Ten Hag is a manager who wants the best players in his squad, and he is at a club where money is not a problem, so we expect him to get all the support he wants at the end of this season.

United have some of the finest players in the world in their team at the moment, and their attack has several talented individuals, which makes it seem they do not need a new player to complete them.

However, the group misses a superb out-and-out striker who can lead the line well and make them more dangerous, so they have prioritised a new number nine.

The progress the Red Devils have made this season has been evident, and it makes them one of the sides to watch out for in European football from next season.

If United can bag a reliable goal-scorer at the end of this season, we can be confident they will win trophies in the next campaign.

However, failure to do so and still relying on Weghorst will get them nowhere, and we believe this is something Ten Hag and his coaching staff knows too well.

At the end of the term, several outstanding attackers would be on the market and United have been linked with a move for some of them already.

In this article, we look at players who can come in at Old Trafford and bag the goals the Red Devils need immediately to help them get a much better chance at winning the Premier League and perhaps the Champions League as well.

Victor Osimhen

Selling Man United tickets depends on having a player who can make the crowds go wild. This season, we have seen that almost no one in entire Europe has been a crowd favourite like Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian is in the form of his life as he plays for Napoli, who could end this season as Italian league winners for the first time in three decades.

Osimhen has had a fantastic rise in football in the last couple of seasons, having originally flopped at Wolfsburg in Germany.

He won the Golden Boot at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup but did not make the breakthrough everyone expected at Wolfsburg.

The Nigerian, however, turned on the style as soon as he left the German club for Belgian side Charleroi, where he exploded in the 2018/2019 season.

After just a season there, Lille added him to his squad, and he also spent just a single season in France. After scoring 13 times in 27 league games, the Frenchmen sold him to Napoli.

Osimhen has bagged 91 goals after 181 games for the Italians and will win the top goal-scorer award in Serie A this season.

At the age of 24, more is to come from the Nigerian, and he is one of the best options United has, knowing he can give them up to six years of top-quality performance.

Harry Kane

Kane has been a long-term target of United and at the end of this season, the striker's future could be decided in the summer as he seems reluctant to sign a new contract at Tottenham.

Kane is world-class and has singlehandedly kept Tottenham competitive in England in the last few seasons.

Sadly his goals haven't been enough for them to win trophies, which means he could end his career with just individual honours.

Spurs insist he is not for sale, but the striker has not extended his deal with them and there is a general reluctance from his camp to do that.

United should easily take advantage of this to land one of the best strikers in the world and make him a member of their squad.

However, Kane would still not come cheap and might even be as expensive as Osimhen because Spurs are never afraid of losing a player for free and will ask for top dollar.

However, after scoring 204 league goals in his first 307 games for the club and breaking the England goalscoring record with 54 goals from just 81 games, Kane deserves to be signed for a considerable fee even if his deal remains just six months.

Dusan Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahovic has emerged as one of Europe's top strikers in the last few seasons and the Serbian will only improve.

His performances have looked subdued since he moved to Juventus because the Old Lady plays a more defensive style.

However, the striker has still tried his best to deliver some outstanding returns for the club and remains one of the most sought-after players in Europe this season.

The Serbian can score from open play and is also a dead-ball specialist who can score free kicks.

United needs goals from several places simultaneously, and the Red Devils will be happy to have a striker who will find the back of the net in different situations.

Vlahovic is just 23, yet he has already scored almost 100 career goals for Juventus and Fiorentina.

United can add him to their squad, but the the €75.00m-rated striker is also wanted by the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid, which means he would not be easy to add to their squad.

His present employers, Juventus, are also one of the biggest clubs in Europe who do not have to sell anyone to survive.

Marcus Thuram

Thuram would be a free agent at the end of this season, which makes him one of the best low-cost options United has to add a new goal-scorer to their squad.

The Red Devils have the money to spend on anyone they like. However, they do not always have to splash the cash if a valuable attacker is on the market for free.

Thuram fits that description at the moment after Borussia Monchengladbach refused to allow him to leave in the January transfer window.

The attacker is having a superb season in Germany, where he has scored 12 goals and provided 3 assists in his first 24 games.

Gladbach knows they have a top talent on their hands, but they are now powerless to stop him from leaving after he entered the last year of his current deal with them.

Several sides have an interest in the attacker and United would be wise to add him to their squad when the transfer window reopens.

Even if he does not join as their leading goal-scorer, the Frenchman can serve as one of the attackers in the group as he is versatile and can play on the wings and through the middle.

Adding him to the group for free would be a great steal and it is a move that another club will make if the Red Devils do not make it.

In the summer, United will shop for a new man they can rely on for goals and they could add more than one attacker to the group.

Marcus Rashford has been superb in this campaign, but he is not a natural number nine and the burden on him for goals at the moment is too much.

A new man will hand the English attacker some breathing space and time to rest while scoring the goals the team needs.
