Strikers Arsenal should consider signing this month

08/01/2024

Arsenal’s bid to win the Premier League last season failed following a late collapse from Mikel Arteta’s side and it could be the case again this term.

At the end of last season, we all thought they had lost the title because of an injury to William Saliba who was a rock at the back for them.

That was the Frenchman’s first season, but he had spent time on loan at Nice and Olympique which developed him into a complete centre-back when he returned to the Emirates.

Arsenal’s defence immediately became watertight when he entered the team and we all could see that he made a huge difference to how they played.

However, other parts of Mikel Arteta’s team were in superb form and the likes of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka were in great shape.

Both scored or provided assists in almost every game that they played for the club and were the drivers.

However, one thing Arsenal missed was a striker who could lead the line and convert most of the chances they created.

They had signed Gabriel Jesus to join Eddie Nketiah as the two frontmen at the club, but none could score up to 20 goals for the team.

Arsenal had a chance to change that by investing in a world-class striker in the summer, but they broke their transfer record for Declan Rice instead and also signed Kai Havertz.

Rice has justified the huge outlay to bring him to North London, but Arsenal is still lacking a striker, which is what could cost them the title again.

This January transfer window offers them a chance to change that and several strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates.

Arsenal ticket buyers will love a list of the best they can sign and we have provided one in this article.

Ivan Toney, Brentford

Toney is the number one target for Arsenal if you ask football followers and it will be a surprise if they sign someone else.

The Brentford striker served a betting ban in the first half of the season and is expected to return to action this month.

Since the Bees were promoted to the top flight, he has been one of the best strikers in the division and will make Arsenal lethal upfront.

None of the Gunners’ current options come close to the Englishman, making it easy to see why it will be good to have him at the Emirates.

He scored 20 goals from 33 Premier League games last season and that number of goals could have won the league for the Gunners.

Dusan Vlahovic, Juventus

Another striker that Arsenal has followed for a long time is Vlahovic of Juventus as the Serbian shines for the Old Lady.

Arsenal first spotted him when he was tearing up Serie A on the books of Fiorentina and were willing to break the bank and bring him to England.

However, the Serbian chose to move to Juve, a transfer that he may regret now as their defensive style has stifled him.

Juve does not play an expansive attacking style of play as was the case at Fiorentina and Vlahovic has struggled to score for them regularly in the last few months.

Juve wanted to sell him in the summer and could be open to a big money offer if Arsenal wants to buy him this month.

He is still just 23, so he has room for improvement and Mikel Arteta might be the best coach to make him a better player.

Santiago Giménez, Feyenoord

One of the best-performing strikers outside the top five European leagues now in Gimenez and he has been consistent for two seasons.

The Mexican plays for Feyenoord where he has developed a killer instinct in front of goal, which makes him one of the best poachers in the world.

The Dutch league is one of the best competitions for any player who wants to get better and he is at a top club at the moment.

Gimenez scored 15 league goals last season and rumours linked him with some of the top clubs around the continent in the summer.

However, he remained as teams wanted to see if he could replicate that performance and he has done even better so far.

The 22-year-old has 18 goals from his first 16 league games for Feyenoord this term and it is hard not to see him at a bigger club next season.

He is the striker who can help make Arsenal better in front of goal if they can add him to their group in this transfer window.

Viktor Gyökeres, Sporting Clube de Portugal

When a top European side goes to the English Championship to sign a player it is almost clear that they saw something others did not.

That is the case for Sporting who signed Gyokeres from Coventry last season after he failed to help them gain promotion to the Premier League.

He scored 21 goals for Coventry in the last campaign and that explains why they were so reluctant to allow him to leave the club when Sporting came knocking on the door.

He has been a revelation in Portugal and has 11 goals and seven assists from 15 league games in the first half of the season.

If he joins Arsenal this month and brings those goals to the Emirates, it will be hard for them not to stay in the title challenge.

Victor Osimhen, Napoli

Osimhen may have signed a new contract at Napoli, but this will likely be his last season on the books of the Italian club.

The Nigerian led them to a league title last season, a first in three decades and has become one of the world’s best frontmen.

He is on Arsenal’s list for that spot on their team and it will be difficult for them to sign him this month, but every player has a price and if they table a huge bid for his signature, he could move to London.

He was the leading scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals and has scored seven in 13 games this term, he is the man Arsenal needs, but can they afford him?

Serhou Guirassy, Stuttgart

One of the revelations of the season in Germany is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy who stormed to the top of the scoring charts ahead of Harry Kane at the start of the term.

Kane has since taken the top spot and is expected to win the top scorer gong, but Guirassy has made it harder for the England goal machine.

The 27-year-old has 17 goals from just 14 league matches so far and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

He will comfortably outscore Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah at the Emirates, while not costing a lot of money. This is a transfer Arsenal should seriously consider this month.
