Why Inter Milan is set to dominate Serie A for a long time

29/04/2024

Inter Milan has just secured its 20th Serie A title and second star, which confirms its place as the second-biggest club in Italian football behind Juventus.

The Nerazzurri have been working hard to beat their city rivals AC Milan to the second star and have done so.

Milan still has just 19 league crowns and are not close to Inter in terms of quality, even though they are likely to finish this season in second place on the league table.

Inter’s success this season did not come as a surprise to neutrals and their fans because they clearly had the best squad in the league from the beginning.

After failing to catch Napoli last season and losing the Champions League final to Manchester City, Inter strengthened their group and were prepared for success in this campaign.

Reaching the final of the Champions League last season was a remarkable achievement and seemed to have handed their team a major confidence boost.

It made the Nerazzurri feel unstoppable, and they also set out to do well in Europe and their domestic competitions this season.

Inter supporters have enjoyed watching their team play and have been blessed to see their side easily defeat every opponent possible in the league.

This is the reason Inter Milan tickets are selling fast on Seatsnet at the moment. Can Inter Milan retain the title and win it for a number of years like Juventus?

We think so and would discuss why Inter looks set to dominate the Italian top flight for a very long time.

They have the best squad

Inter Milan’s squad has been the best in the league since last season, and Napoli did not win the 2022/2023 Scudetto because they had the best squad.

The Partenopei enjoyed that success because Inter was more focused on winning the Champions League and did not have enough consistency domestically.

However, they still had the best squad in the league, and this season it has become obvious.

Despite the top squad in their possession, Inter still strengthened their group in the summer, signing Marcus Thuram, Davide Fratessi, Yann Sommer, and Benjamin Pavard, among others.

They currently have at least two good players in each position on the pitch, and if they decide not to make signings in the summer, they will still have a good team for next season.

This means they will probably be the most equipped team in Serie A next season as well because their players have a good understanding of each other now and might exceed the high standards they have set in this campaign.

A progressive manager

Simone Inzaghi was less popular than his brother, Filippo Inzaghi when both were players and most people didnt even know about him as a player.

However, as a manager, he built a fine reputation for himself at Lazio. He made them one of the top clubs in Italy again, winning one Italian Cup and two Super Cups, which were enough for Inter to make him their gaffer in 2021 as a replacement for Antonio Conte.

Inzaghi has improved the team every season he has been on the bench, reaching the final of the Champions League last season.

Before this season, he had won two Italian Cups and three Super Cups, which was a clear sign that the team was progressing.

At the beginning of this campaign, almost everyone agreed that Inter were the favourite to be the champions of Italy at the end.

There is no match for them, and reaching the finals of the Champions League in the previous campaign filled them with confidence.

When Juventus continued to push them all the way in the race for the title, neutrals knew it was only a matter of time before the Old Lady fell off because Inter are clearly the strongest club in the country.

Their progress has been consistent, thanks to Inzaghi being a progressive manager who knows how to build on the team’s previous success.

His Lazio side always looked much better in every campaign because he knew the players to add to the group and strengthen it.

This will make Inter a team that other Italian clubs will struggle to keep up with, and we could see them go on a winning run like Juventus did until 2020.

Serie A teams struggle to strengthen

Because of the abolition of the Growth Decree, Italian clubs struggle to make signings and strengthen their group.

Without that Growth Decree, teams have to pay 100% tax on new signings and their wages, which is a huge burden for clubs, forcing them to focus on cheap players.

Inter has already developed a team that can compete at the highest level and has mastered the act of making free signings of top players.

Winning the league and becoming the top Italian club puts them in a position to lure top free agents to Serie A. After boosting their earnings, they can also spend more cash than several of their rivals.

Because the other top clubs will struggle to improve their options, Inter is now in a position to continue to dominate the competition for several seasons.

Other top clubs are rebuilding

Apart from not being able to sign players like Inter, a majority of their rivals are at the start of their rebuild.

Juventus are set to change their manager at the end of this season, with the inexperienced but exciting Thiago Motta expected to become their next gaffer.

The Bianconeri are far behind Inter in their rebuild, and it will take more than a season for them to challenge for the Serie A title again.

AC Milan is also expected to sack Stefano Pioli at the end of this term, which would mean a new manager will be installed.

The new gaffer is not expected to work magic and make them as competitive as Inter in just a year, so winning the next Scudetto is almost guaranteed for Inter.

Napoli won the 2022/2023 title, but they were dismal in this campaign and are expected to lose Victor Osimhen at the end of this season.

The Nigerian is their main goalscorer, and his departure will be a major blow for them, meaning a new gaffer must sign another goalscorer.

Both the manager and the goalscorer will need time, which means the Partenopei are building from scratch again.

Inter has been through the phases that these clubs are starting and are now a stable group.

We expect them to make new signings in the summer, and those additions to their squad will only make it harder for their rivals to catch them.

How many Scudettis do you think Inter Milan will win before another club takes the crown?
