Why giving Ancelotti a new deal makes sense for Real Madrid

07/01/2024

Real Madrid is the world’s biggest club, and they were looking to get a new manager when Carlo Ancelotti leaves in the summer.

For several weeks, we were made to believe that the legendary Italian gaffer would leave and become the manager of the Brazil national team.

After Tite left the Selecao, they have been a shadow of themselves and are looking for a new coach to lead them back to success.

Ancelotti was considered the right man for the job, and the Italian gaffer seemed interested as he did not do enough to make the rumours go away.

However, Madrid has just handed him a new contract until 2026, a move that clearly shows they know what they have on their hands.

Only a few managers come close to the successful career Ancelotti has built, and Madrid has hardly had a better coach for several decades.

The Italian has won the league title in England, Germany, France, Italy and Spain and won several Champions League crowns, the last of which was in 2022.

It was shocking to think Madrid even considered his departure because there simply are no better managers than the Italian in the world at the moment.

He enjoys his work and is so good at it at the same time, so remaining in Madrid was the best choice for him and the club.

Madrid has some of the best set of fans and players who have been spoilt with success, and it will be tough for another manager to fill the shoes of Ancelotti.

The Italian has worked hard to become the successful manager he is now and has interestingly found success with different generation of players.

Madrid has been refreshing the age of their players in recent months, and he has done brilliantly with the youngsters as he did with the veterans.

His current team will phase out the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the nex few years, yet he has maintained the same standard for the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham, among others.

Real Madrid ticket buyers will be happy with the decision to keep Ancelotti at the club and know more success is coming.

No better manager

Before Ancelotti signed his contract extension, rumours about him becoming the next Brazil manager intensified, and Madrid gave no information about their plans.

The likes of Jurgen Klopp and Max Allegri were linked with a move to the club as their next manager after the Italian.

It seems Madrid took its time searching for a replacement before offering him a new deal, and it is clear to see that there is no better free coach in the world at the moment than Ancelotti.

There are world-class managers at other clubs, but it will be hard for Madrid to lure Klopp away from Liverpool or Pep Guardiola from Manchester City.

They also will not fancy handing a chance to Unai Emery, who is one of the best Spanish coaches in the world, after their experience with Rafa Benitez.

Benitez was one of the finest managers around the globe when Madrid made him their gaffer, but he lasted only a few months after falling out with some players at the Bernabeu.

Ancelotti has managed some of the biggest egos in world football and remained successful, so he is the right man for the world’s biggest club, and it is smart that Madrid did not allow him to leave the club.

He built the current team

Most of the current Madrid players arrived to meet Ancelotti at the club, some during his first spell between 2013 and 2015, so it is easy for him to communicate with and work with them.

The Italian gaffer has his fingerprint all over the current Madrid team, so sticking with him means the club has chosen stability.

If a new manager had arrived at the Bernabeu, Madrid could have been forced to make some changes to their squad.

The players will also have to learn a new style of play to please the manager, and that transitional period could have been very costly.

Sticking with the man who moulded the current team means success will come faster and might be inevitable because they already are one of the most successful teams in the world.

He would save them money on a rebuild while maintaining the standard they have been accustomed to over the last few years.

Players to benefit most from Ancelotti staying

Keeping Ancelotti is a smart choice for Madrid, and to some extent, it was the only right choice to make at this point.

There is hardly a better coach who is available, and they have just began the rejuvenation of their squad.

However, overall, players will benefit the most from the gaffer sticking around, and we have covered some of the Madrid stars that will be happy with the decision.

Arda Guler

Guler only moved to Madrid this summer and is just 18, so a change of manager could have been difficult for him.

Unlike Martin Odegaard, Ancelotti loves Guler and has immediately included the wonderkid in his first team plans.

Injuries mean we have not seen much of the Turkey international this season, but he is so young and has so much time to meet expectations.

With Ancelotti at the helm, he is guaranteed to earn match minutes in Madrid, which will aid his development at the club.

Eduardo Camavinga

Camavinga is one of the world’s most decorated youngsters and owes much of his success to Ancelotti believing in him.

Another gaffer could have sanctioned a loan move away for the Frenchman and rely on more experienced players.

However, Ancelotti trusted him and has helped him develop his game by playing in different roles on the pitch.

With the Italian boss remaining the manager at the Bernabeu, we expect to see more of him, and perhaps they can win some more Champions League crowns together.

Endrick

Endrick will join Madrid when he turns 18, and the Brazilian can ask for no better manager than Ancelotti.

Madrid is also interested in a move for Kylian Mbappe, which will be hard to pull off now that they have signed Endrick.

If Ancelotti trusts him enough, they could abandoned their pursuit of the Frenchman, and he will make the Palmeiras teenager his main man in attack.

Endrick has already visited the Madrid team and will be excited to play under a manager who has won every available club trophy possible.

Rodrygo

Rodrygo is another player who has enjoyed some prominence under Ancelotti, and the Brazilian knows it could all change if a new manager comes in with a different system.

In the last two terms, Rodrygo has become an efficient member of the Madrid team, and he will be delighted that a manager who trusts him remains at the helm at the club for another season.
