The top transfers we expect by Premier League clubs this summer

09/07/2024

The Premier League season begins in less than two months, and clubs in England’s top flight are already working on the profile of players that will improve their options.

The Premier League constantly outspends other top flights and clubs in England’s elite division have been linked with some of the best players around Europe again.

This summer we have already seen some deals happen, especially among the clubs that needed to raise money before the end of June.

However, there have been at least one top departure from the Premier League so far, with Douglas Luiz leaving Aston Villa for Juventus.

Before the summer began properly, clubs had released some key men, with Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea, Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip, among other high profile names.

We have also seen managers leave their roles, with Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool and Mauricio Pochettino leaving Chelsea, among others.

The Premier League will be quite different from how we know it when the 2024/2025 campaign begins properly.

Several clubs are on the market to sign top players and ensure their Premier League tickets sell as soon as the season begins.

This is just the start of the transfer window, but we already know some names that are hot topics among clubs in England’s top division.

In this article, we discuss some of the transfers that we expect to happen in the coming weeks before the Premier League season begins.

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal or Chelsea

Calafiori has been one the most impressive players in Europe in the last few months after dazzling for Bologna in Serie A and taking that form to Euro 2024.

At the end of the last Serie A season, it seemed obvious that he would move to the biggest club in Italian football, Juventus.

However, after he shone at Euro 2024, the Old Lady are behind Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign the left-footed centre-back.

Arsenal now leads the race for his signature and has sent him an offer already to join them, with Bologna also more interested in selling him abroad.

The deal should go through in the next few weeks, but Chelsea continues to monitor him and if his move to Arsenal breaks down, the Blues will pounce to sign him.

Victor Osimhen to Chelsea or Arsenal

Victor Osimhen already has a pact with Napoli to leave the club in this transfer window, and he looks set to move to the Premier League.

Antonio Conte would love to have him in his Napoli squad for next season, but Osimhen is heading to England.

Arsenal and Chelsea need strikers, with the Blues looking more serious in the race for Osimhen.

They could strike a swap agreement with Napoli for Romelu Lukaku to go the other way, considering the Belgian has always enjoyed working with Conte.

However, nothing is certain at the moment and Osimhen could also go to Saudi Arabia, with Napoli prioritising who pays them the most money.

De Ligt to Manchester United

One of the most important managers in Matthijs de Ligt’s career is Erik Ten Hag and they both enjoyed a lot of success while they were at Ajax.

A summer reunion is on the cards as Manchester United shows interest in a move for the defender.

He is struggling for relevance at Bayern Munich and the Germans are also open to offloading him in this transfer window.

De Ligt will have a lot of clubs looking to sign him, however, he has chosen a move to United and we expect it to be completed in the coming weeks.

Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia

Last summer Liverpool rejected a £150m bid for Mohamed Salah from Al Ittihad and it was a bold decision to make.

The Egyptian remains one of the greatest attackers in the club’s history and has remained loyal despite that interest in his signature.

However, with Jurgen Klopp gone and a new manager at the helm, there is a good chance that he might leave, and there is no other place for him to go than Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis should reignite their interest in his signature and this time, we expect Liverpool to accept their offer.

Marc Guehi to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Chelsea

One of the standout performers in the England squad at Euro 2024 has been Marc Guehi and this could be the most important summer in the defender’s career.

Guehi has already attracted attention from Arsenal and other Premier League clubs before Euro 2024 began, and now more clubs are keen.

He is now in the shopping list of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, which is a big deal for English football.

If he keeps playing well and England wins the competition, we expect him to join one of the top clubs in Europe.

Mason Greenwood to AC Milan, Lazio or Juventus

It is sad that off-field problems have ended the Manchester United career of Mason Greenwood and this is the summer the Red Devils will end his time on their books.

He did well on loan at Getafe last season and deserves to get another chance at Old Trafford, but United will not take such a risk which could be an own goal.

Several clubs are now showing interest in Greenwood and most of them are in the Italian top-flight.

AC Milan, Lazio, and Juventus have all shown interest in him this summer and there is a good chance that he will join one of them before the season begins.

Jadon Sancho to Juventus

Jadon Sancho is another fine talent who will likely not play for Manchester United next season after he fell out with Erik Ten Hag.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund where he reached the final of the Champions League.

The attacker was brilliant in Germany, but Ten Hag insists he must apologise, which is not something Sancho wants to do.

Juventus has made enquiries about signing him in this transfer window, and he could become a valuable member of Thiago Motta’s squad in Turin this season.

Federico Chiesa to Manchester United

Federico Chiesa was the best player at Euro 2020 and it is sad to see how he has declined in just three years.

The attacker has been told to leave by Juventus because he has a year left in his contract, and they will not offer him a new deal.

The winger is now searching for a new home and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, mostly because Juve also wants some United players.

Both clubs could swap players, with Jadon Sancho or Mason Greenwood moving to Juve in exchange for Chiesa.

Kevin de Bruyne to Saudi Arabia

Kevin de Bruyne has been open about having no problems with playing in Saudi Arabia if an offer arrives, considering he is at the end of his career at the moment.

The Belgian has now won all the club trophies possible in European football, so he can leave for one big last payday and no where else can offer him that than Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis would be back in Europe to sign the top talents on the continent again, and KDB could be a part of the next batch.

Joshua Kimmich to Manchester City

Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich this summer and he has several clubs chasing his signature.

The German is one of the best players in the world and has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Reds will struggle to sign him now that they have lost the charismatic Jurgen Klopp, which makes City the favourites in England, considering it was Pep Guardiola who gave him his big break at Bayern Munich.

Conclusion

This will be an interesting summer in European football and we expect some top players to move and leave the Premier League, it will be interesting to how many of these transfers happen.
