The best Champions League match to watch on matchday three

12/10/2023

The Champions League is in full swing, and we have been served some thrilling matches this season already.

After two match weeks, fans would look at the performance of Newcastle United in their two games, and many will consider them the best team.

In the last round of games, there were some thrilling contests, one of which was Newcatle's 4-1 win against PSG and Arsenal's 2-1 loss at Lens.

Arsenal had been in terrific form when they faced PSV on matchday one, and Lens is making a return to the Champions League for the first time in two decades.

Arsenal also took the lead in that game, so almost no one expected them to lose, which is why that result was huge.

Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan also played out a thrilling goalless draw as both clubs continue to struggle, and it seems Newcastle will likely qualify from their group alongside PSG if the Frenchmen are back in form soon.

Elsewhere, there was a surprise at Old Trafford, where Manchester United were defeated by Galatasaray, meaning the Red Devils have lost consecutive games in the competition this term.

Atletico de Madrid and Bayern Munich almost ended their games with surprising defeats, but they recovered to beat Feyenoord and Copenhagen, respectively.

The third week of the Champions League will make more fans patronise the best ticket marketplace for their tickets to matches. Which contest could be the most thrilling?

Newcastle United vs Borussia Dortmund

Newcastle United is making a return to the Champions League after more than a decade, and they have been terrific.

The Magpies have scored four goals and conceded one, defeating PSG 4-1 the last time after earning a superb draw against AC Milan in San Siro.

Eddie Howe has worked magic since he got the job at the club and is constantly working to outdo himself.

Borussia Dortmund earned a draw against AC Milan in their last game and remains without a win in the group, having lost their first game at PSG.

The Germans are showing no signs of doing well in the competition this term and their double header against Newcastle will be tough.

The Premier League side will feel they can defeat the Germans if they can do the same with PSG who were dealt with easily.

It is a game that BVB knows they cannot lose and we expect them to be on their best form when they visit St James Park.

PSG vs AC Milan

PSG and AC Milan were considered clubs that would make the next round of the Champions League in their group of death, but they find themselves trailing newcomers Newcastle United after two matches.

Their next two games would be against each other, and the match in France is a contest we all expect to be thrilling.

PSG were out of sorts in their 4-1 humbling at the hands of Newcastle United, and it is the type of performance their fans do not want again.

The best way to make the Parisians forget about that terrible night is to defeat AC Milan in Paris.

The Italians are unbeaten in the competition, albeit with no wins, as they prepare for a double-header against the French champions.

Milan signed several players in the last transfer window, so their team is very much a work in progress, but they know that they have to get going in the Champions League from this game.

If they lose to PSG and BVB wins against Newcastle United, it becomes extremely complicated for them.

PSG also knows they have to win both matches against Milan to ensure they can get out of this group, and failure to do so puts them in a tough position.

It has been a tough opening week for both clubs, and this game will be one of the most thrilling contests of the round when both clubs meet.

Celtic vs Atletico de Madrid

Brendan Rodgers' Celtic continue to show that the level of football in Scotland is just poor as they struggle in the Champions League again.

The Hoops often power through their league season and easily win domestic competitions despite competition from Rangers.

But when they qualify for the Champions League, they hardly make an impact and have lost their opening two games in the competition.

This makes them the team anyone can beat, but their fans expect some form of resistance from them when Atletico de Madrid comes to town for this fixture.

The Spanish side is one of the toughest clubs in the competition, but they showed in their last game against Feyenoord that they could be breached at the back.

If Celtic can get some inspiration from the home support and play their game, just as they perform in their domestic competitions, we expect them to cause problems for the Spanish sides in this game.

Sevilla vs Arsenal

Arsenal's return to the Champions League was well-celebrated after they nearly won the Premier League last season.

The Gunners have maintained a good upturn in form in the current seasons, and they are still one of the favourites to win the Premier League.

On matchday one, they defeated PSV 4-0 to announce their return to the biggest stage of European football.

Fans expected them to repeat this performance in the next match against Lens, but the Frenchmen stunned Mikel Arteta's boys with a 2-1 defeat.

This makes Arsenal's next matches in the competition must-wins and Sevilla is their next opponent.

The Spanish side competes because they won the Europa League last term, so they have a pedigree in European football.

However, they often fail to make the Champions League's knockout rounds, which should offer some encouragement to the Gunners.

Arsenal will have learnt from their failure to beat Lens and should approach Sevilla with more caution and respect.

The Spanish club might be trickier to beat than Lens, especially as they have a new manager and this will make the game an exciting fixture to watch.

Galatasaray vs Bayern Munich

Galatasaray earned a shock 3-2 win at Manchester United in their last Champions League game. Can they also beat Bayern Munich?

Turkish clubs often sign players who want to keep playing in the Champions League, even though they are not desired by the clubs in the top European leagues.

This helps them make some exciting signings and Galatasaray has some names we all know about.

Wilfried Zaha and Mauro Icardi were stand-out performers for them in the game at United, but they also have Lucas Torreira and Dries Mertens.

These players used their experience to make life harder for United and would want to repeat the same with Bayern.

The Germans survived a huge scare in their last game against Copenhagen as the exciting Danes matched the Bavarians in most areas of the pitch.

They even took the lead to show Bayern is not unbeatable after all. It remains to be seen if Gala is better than Copenhagen and they will draw on confidence from their win against United to try and hurt the Germans.

The third round of matches in the Champions League offers us some of the best games to watch, and teams know the outcome of those games will go a long way to determine their destiny in the competition this term.

If they win the games, they have a better chance of making the next round of the competition, but if they don't, they know they have more work to do to secure a knockout stage ticket.
