Real Madrid is building another dominant side for the future

19/09/2023

Real Madrid has been one of the most dominant clubs in European football for much of its existence and does not ever want to stop winning.

Los Blancos has won most of the Champions League crowns in the last two decades, and their decision to sign some key players in the past has ensured they stayed competitive.

They always seem to have the perfect succession plan and can easily transition from one era to another because they have learned to spot the best talents worldwide.

From the time of the Galacticos that had Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo de Lima, Roberto Carlos and Raul Gonzalez, among others to the era of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, Madrid has always had a team that can compete for top honours.

They lost Ronaldo in 2018 after winning yet another Champions League trophy and fans expected them to struggle without the Portugal star.

However, Madrid comfortably continued to achieve success domestically and on the European stage, with Luka Modric and Karim Benzema carrying the team to a new era.

They have continued to progress and won the Champions League in 2022, with stars like Fede Valverde and Vinicius Junior proving they have successfully entered a new era.

But they fell short in their quest for another European glory last season as Manchester City eliminated them to win the title.

Madrid had the luxury of still using Benzema in the last campaign, with Modric also playing an important role in their success.

However, at the end of the term, Benzema left to follow the riches on offer in Saudi Arabia for free. He had achieved so much in Madrid, so it did not matter that he had a contract with them.

Modric resisted that temptation and remained in Madrid to continue delivering top performances for fans who will pay to get the best seats and others at Los Blancos games.

But the Croatian’s influence has been very limited in this campaign as Madrid is focusing more on younger talents, and it is clear that they are building a team for the future.

They did not have a long time to replace Karim Benzema with a striker who has a long-term value to offer, so they signed Joselu on an initial loan deal.

The ex-Newcastle United flop now leads the line, but Madrid has invested in some terrific young players that show they are prepared to dominate the European game again, not so far from now.

The Whites signed Jude Bellingham in the last transfer window, which seems to be one of the best decisions they can make.

The Englishman arrives in Madrid to join the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga at the club.

These youngsters are all 23 years and under but have played regular football for a long time and will make the team terrific again for the next few terms.

In goal, 24-year-old Andriy Lunin is one man they can trust to do well as their first-choice goalkeeper for a long time.

He already has a Champions League medal, among others, and the decision not to loan him out in the last campaign suggests that the club has no plans for him to leave them anytime soon.

Madrid has some of the best goalies in European football at the moment and has confidence that Thibaut Courtois can still be in goal for several seasons, but if the Belgian leaves, Lunin can step up and fill the void he leaves behind.

They re-signed their academy product Fran Garcia in the summer after his superb two seasons at Rayo Vallecano, and the 24-year-old is already one of their most important players this term.

He is the starting left-back, and at his age, he will spend several more seasons as a starter for the club if his level of performance does not drop.

Madrid has other veterans in that defence who will ensure he is well taken care of, and we expect the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy, and Eder Militao to be in that team for some time as they remain outstanding players.

The midfield is where the main revolution has happened already, with the likes of Modric and Toni Kroos now facing the most competition for a place they have had since they have been at the club.

Bellingham and Arda Guler joined them in the last transfer window, and the Englishman has been unstoppable.

Bellingham burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation at Birmingham City and continues to go from strength to strength after his spell at BVB.

Guler is the next big thing to come from Turkey and had Barcelona and Madrid fighting for his signature in the last transfer window.

The youngster remains one player we expect big things from and he has not played this season because of an injury he suffered before the campaign started.

The decision not to send him out on loan in the last transfer window says a lot about what the club thinks about him.

We now expect to see him exploding with his trickery and running in the colours of the Whites when he returns to full fitness.

The likes of Camavinga and Tchouameni have been on the team for some time and have already shown what they can do even on the international stage with their country.

Madrid has succeeded in reconstructing its midfield with some of the finest talents on offer, and in the next decade, they will have a middle that can challenge for the biggest trophies.

In attack, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz are players who support Joselu to get the team goals.

Losing Karim Benzema is a huge blow for Madrid because he is one the world’s best strikers and had been at the club for over a decade.

They have missed him in their attack and his absence has seen Jude Bellingham step up to help the team get some goals.

Vinicius has been a terrific player for the club, while the likes of Rodrygo and Joselu also pop up with important goals.

But Los Blancos still do not have a striker who can bang in the goals for them regularly, which is important in achieving success in the modern game.

This is why they have secured an agreement to sign Endrick from Palmeiras and he will join them in the summer of 2024.

The youngster is a top Brazilian talent and has earned comparisons with legends like Ronaldo de Lima.

Madrid is following a blueprint they used to secure Vinicius and Rodrygo from clubs in Brazil, with both attackers also signing for them before eventually joining.

This is because Endrick, like the other two, must be 18 before he can move to Europe.

The attacker has continued to thrive at Palmeiras and is a player we know will thrive and could be the long-term replacement for Benzema when he arrives.

Los Blancos are also expected to move for Kylian Mbappe at the end of this season, as the Frenchman is a player who has been on their radar for a long time.

He is expected to finally move from Paris to Madrid, even if the Whites now have to pay a transfer fee, which wasn't their initial plan.

Mbappe is one of the best strikers in the world and is already the record goalscorer for PSG and captains the France national team at 24.

When he joins Madrid, we should see a different Los Blancos side and they will successfully transition into a team that can dominate the European game again.
