The biggest transfer stories we expect in the summer

07/03/2024

This season has reached its pivotal stage, with most European leagues reaching the final few weeks of their season.

This means in the next few months, we will know the champions and teams will start activating their summer plans.

Those who qualify for the Champions League and other European competitions and others who haven’t qualified will be on the lookout for the best talents to add to their group.

We already expect several high-profile transfers to happen when the transfer window reopens.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, and Viktor Gyokeres, among other top players, are set to change clubs at the end of the term.

They will likely be moving top clubs whose tickets are on sale from vetted resellers on Seatsnet.

In this article, we consider some of the blockbuster moves that might happen at the end of this term.

Victor Osimhen to Chelsea, Arsenal or PSG

Victor Osimhen was the leading scorer in the Italian top flight last season as Napoli won the Serie A crown for the first time in over thirty years.

The Nigerian has remained one of the best strikers in Europe, and his performance has improved since he returned from the AFCON last month.

Napoli knows he would leave and agreed to a new deal until 2026 with a release clause that the top clubs can activate at the end of the term.

Osimhen is a wanted man at the moment, with teams in the Premier League, Ligue 1 and Saudi Arabia all looking to sign the Nigerian.

Osimhen said he knows where his future lies in the summer, and most people believe he wants to play in the Premier League, where Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in adding him to their squad.

He could also replace Kylian Mbappe at PSG after Goncalo Ramos failed to live up to the expectations in Paris since he moved to the club.

Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid

Perhaps the biggest transfer of the summer is Kylian Mbappe’s expected move from PSG to Real Madrid, which should have happened in 2022.

The French goal machine has broken all the records available for him to break at PSG and has won all the domestic trophies in France repeatedly.

Everyone knows Mbappe is now too big for PSG, and if he remains with them, he will never win the Champions League.

The attacker has informed his teammates and the club that he is leaving at the end of this season, and we all know he will play for Real Madrid.

Madrid has avoided paying around $200m in transfer fees, but they are still expected to plash money on him in terms of signing-on fees and other bonuses.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for Mbappe, but we are just waiting for Madrid to announce that he has signed on the dotted lines and will wear their shirt next term.

Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid

Madrid could be unstoppable in the next few years as they are building an amazing team that would be difficult for anyone to defeat.

They already have the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Fede Valverde, among others.

They are expected to add Kylian Mbappe to that group in the summer, and he might be joined by Alphonso Davies.

Madrid has shown interest in the speedy Canadian left-back since last season, but Bayern Munich refused to sell, hoping that he would sign a new contract with them.

However, he has still not signed and can leave as a free agent in 2025 if Bayern does not sell him at the end of the term.

Davies is too valuable to leave Bayern for free, and we expect the Bavarians to finally agree to cash in on him at the end of this term.

Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia

Salah was the subject of a $200m bid from Saudi Arabia at the start of this season, and Liverpool surprisingly turned down the offer.

The decision has proven to be a smart one, as the Egyptian King is now leading the Reds towards winning another league title.

Liverpool has won the Carabao Cup and can still win the quadruple in what is Jurgen Klopp’s final season as their manager.

His decision to quit in the summer is a huge blow to the Reds, and we expect that to affect Salah’s decision.

The Egyptian might wait for Liverpool’s new manager to decide if he is in his plans or not, or he might welcome another bid from Saudi Arabia and ask the Reds to sell him.

Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal or Chelsea

Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe this season, even though he played in the English second division last term.

Sporting Clube splashed around $30m to sign him from Coventry City, and that was a considerable sum to spend.

He could now triple that money as he is the subject of transfer interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

Both London clubs are in need of a new striker and are expected to spend money on an established player when the transfer window reopens.

Gyokeres has already scored at least 30 goals for Sporting Clube, and he will be a good addition to either squad if they can pull off the transfer.

Andy Robertson to Bayern Munich

Shocking reports in recent weeks reveal Bayern Munich wants to sign Liverpool's Andy Robertson at the end of this season.

Robertson has become a bargain buy after costing Liverpool around $10m while joining them from Hull City.

The Scotsman was the first defender in Premier League history to reach 58 assists in the competition, and Liverpool will not want to lose him.

However, if a new manager joins the team and decides he does not want the Scotsman in his team, Robbo could be more than happy to move to Bayern Munich.

Olivier Giroud to the MLS

At 37, Giroud is still one of the finest strikers in the world and has scored 12 goals from 24 league games for AC Milan this season.

The Frenchman is like a fine wine which keeps getting better as it ages, and he is being targeted by clubs outside Europe.

Giroud has interest from the Saudi Pro League, where the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema play now, but he is leaning towards a move to the MLS.

No team has been named as favourite to sign him to the American top flight, but Giroud is a player who is dedicated to being valuable on the pitch, and any club that signs him will enjoy it.

Mason Greenwood to Barcelona or Atletico Madrid

Mason Greenwood is enjoying his football again at Getafe after the Spanish club took a chance on him and took him on loan from Manchester United.

He has become a starter at the Madrid club, and they are eager to keep him, but Getafe cannot afford Greenwood.

United will struggle to reintegrate him into their team following his alleged assault on a partner, so this has opened the door for one of Spain’s top teams to sign him.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are the frontrunners for his signature at the moment, and we expect one of them to land him.

Both clubs can afford Greenwood, and whichever side he joins will enjoy the talent of a unique player who made Manchester United fans dream of having another superstar in their ranks.
