Is Arsenal more mature to win the Premier League this season?

08/12/2023

Last season, Arsenal shocked us all with some sensational performances as they were atop the Premier League log for several days.

At some points, there were more than 10 points between them and Manchester City, which was remarkable.

The last time a team were so far ahead of City was when Liverpool went on to win the league in 2020, so Arsenal made their fans dream. Who can blame them?

Interestingly, in that term, Arsenal were not even playing in the Champions League, so this was clearly an overachievement, and Mikel Arteta’s side would have pulled off a major shock with that title win.

They looked fantastic and were a good value for the money, with most of their players showing great form.

At the back, Gabriel Magalhaes formed an impressive partnership with William Saliba, who was enjoying his first taste of Premier League football, having spent time out on loan in the previous campaigns.

Both of them worked well with a midfield that had the inspiring Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

However, Arsenal fell short as their inexperience eventually caught up with them and ensured that Manchester City overtook them.

Because that campaign seems more like a one-off, we expected the Gunners to struggle to make the top four this season.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men have remained ambitious and they are going for the title again.

Fans who buy Arsenal tickets are seeing their team impress with some very fine football and the Gunners are at the top of the Premier League table.

They are above City again and the resurgent Liverpool, so Mikel Arteta’s men have come to stay in the top four for a long time.

It is what Gooners have dreamed of for several seasons and they always fill the Emirates to watch their team perform to high standards.

We have followed them closely and have some reasons to believe they are mature enough to be champions this term.

Winning when they play badly

In the last campaign, when Arsenal started a game badly and had a bad day at the office, it was almost guaranteed they would drop points in that fixture.

This was particularly the case in the second half of the season when several top players in their squad were in bad shape.

Just like this term, they had overused Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and others, so you can predict from the start of matches that Arsenal will not win a game.

It was worse when they lost William Saliba to a long-term injury, as the Frenchman was their main man in defence.

But things seem different this season and Arsenal has found a way to win matches, even when they are having a bad day.

The Gunners understand that winning at all costs is the key to success in a marathon like the Premier League.

There have been games where they have been terrific, like their match against Manchester City, and we all knew they deserved to win.

However, there are other fixtures that they have not been as good as they should have, yet they still find a way to win.

Their match against Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium was one game they could have lost last season, but they found a way to emerge victorious.

This is how champions are made and if they keep winning ugly, it will be difficult to stop them from becoming the champions of England again.

Good results against the top clubs

Last term, Arsenal struggled against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City, the main teams that fought them for the Premier League title.

The Gunners have traditionally struggled against these clubs, which has always cost them valuable points and titles.

The most points are in the other teams outside the top four, but if you can beat the top teams in the league, your players will be full of confidence that they can win against anyone.

This hack is also helping Arsenal enjoy more success in the Premier League this term.

In games against Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Manchester United, Arsenal have remained unbeaten, defeating both Manchester clubs.

Their win against City was arguably their most impressive result against these top sides and shows the balance of power between both clubs may have shifted in favour of the Gunners.

If Arsenal keeps their momentum as much as they have done and gets good results against Liverpool, it may be very difficult to stop them from being champions of England by next summer.

Keeping a core of their players

In the summer, Arsenal sold Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen, which was a surprise because the Swiss captain had just finished his best season in their colours.

For several years, Xhaka struggled to prove he is worth keeping at Arsenal and eventually did well in the last campaign.

But the Gunners allowed Xhaka to leave after signing Kai Havertz and Declan Rice in the summer.

Both players were expected to do much better than the Swiss captain had done and it will be interesting to see how Arsenal keeps lining up with both in their group.

But the Gunners refused the temptation to sell most of the players who nearly won them the league last season.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli have all been handed new contracts by the club, tying them down to the Emirates for the next few years.

This has boosted the morale in the dressing room and continuity is a critical element of success at any competition.

Keeping their main men and adding top players to the group, like Rice and Jurrien Timber, means Arsenal is better equipped than they were last season.

This could make a difference in the title race between them and the other clubs challenging for the trophies.

Improving attacking players

The attacking players at every club are arguably their squad's most important members, and Arsenal knows this.

The Gunners have some fine talents in their attack, but their top scorer last season was Martin Odegaard, who bagged 15 league goals alongside Gabriel Martinelli.

The Norwegian plays in attacking midfield but had to step up as their strikers did not do as well as the team needed.

Arsenal has been urged to sign a new striker this term who can score up to 25 league goals per season and almost every football lover will agree to this.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side has improved up front this term and there seems to be a better understanding among their attackers.

This is a recipe for success and they can trust the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Martinelli to get them out of trouble in games.

Arsenal has looked decent at the back for much of the last year and the arrival of Rice has made their midfield solid.

If the attackers can get things right and continue to perform well, stopping them from winning the league and other competitions would be difficult.

This could be Arsenal’s season to be the champions of England and they have started the term very well.

Mikel Arteta’s men will need some consistency of performance to become champions, but it does not seem like that will be a problem for them.
