Which clubs are fighting for the Premier League fourth spot

01/10/2024

Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have made the top three spot in the Premier League theirs over the last few seasons, which means other clubs can only fight for the fourth spot on the league table in every campaign if they are interested in playing in the Champions League.

Two seasons ago, Liverpool missed out on a Champions League spot, with Newcastle United finishing above them to qualify for Europe’s top club competition.

Last term, Aston Villa was the club to break into the top four ahead of Manchester United who finished outside all the European places.

In every campaign, one club shows that it can break into the traditional top-four structure in England, with Fulham being one of the teams that could play in Europe next term.

The Cottagers may sell Premier League tickets by promising their fans Champions League football at the end of the season, but can they truly qualify for it?

Perhaps targeting the Champions League is too big for Fulham, but who are the clubs likely to take the fourth spot on the Premier League table at the end of this season?

Chelsea

As Chelsea’s chaotic summer continued with a spending spree that knows no end, we thought the Blues were setting up their manager Enzo Maresca to fail in his role at the club this season.

Every manager loves to be supported with a lot of players who can help them achieve success easily and quickly.

However, no manager wants to work with a bloated squad, so Maresca faced a huge task after Chelsea’s spending spree.

But the Italian was quick to trim down his squad to two players in each position on the team and Chelsea have good options in those roles.

The Blues shipped out the likes of Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher, who Maresca is sure will not do well in his team at Stamford Bridge.

He has kept the stars he believes will fit his system, and that clear decision has made buying Chelsea tickets worth it.

The Blues have started the season stronger than their fans and some neutrals had expected, and Chelsea is a serious candidate to finish in the fourth spot this term.

Manchester United

Judging by their transfer business, Manchester looks like the most serious title challenger in the Premier League this season, so finishing inside the top four should be a minimum target for Erik Ten Hag.

Having made a U-turn on their decision to sack Ten Hag, United is now expecting the Dutchman to repay them with some trophies.

During his first season as the club’s manager, his team effortlessly sold Manchester United tickets because they were in terrific form.

They qualified for the Champions League, won the League Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup.

However, we wondered if the Red Devils will make a strong start to this season and they have not.

Their summer dealings promised so much as they signed the likes of Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, among several other stars.

Ten Hag has also welcomed back Lisandro Martinez after his injury-ravaged campaign the last time out, yet his side has been struggling to win games.

If things don’t change soon, they won’t come close to finishing inside the top four and the Dutchman may struggle to keep his job.

Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou insists he always wins a trophy in his second season at his previous clubs, and the Tottenham gaffer will probably achieve that this term.

However, what some of their fans will be more concerned about is a return to Champions League football and their team nearly earned it last season.

They were even at the top of the Premier League table at some point last season, which prompted us to wonder if they will be the surprise champions of the Premier League.

However, they eventually dropped from the top of the league table and were eventually beaten to the final Champions League spot by Aston Villa.

Tottenham still has some of the best players in the Premier League in their squad and they are one of the clubs to follow.

Tottenham tickets are some of the best to buy in the Premier League also because they have a very good stadium.

This season has not started as good as the last one, and their fans expect better performance from their team, but having already signed Dominic Solanke to hand themselves an extra quality striker, they have a good chance to turn things around and finish inside the top four.

Aston Villa

Unai Emery continues to enhance his reputation as one of the best managers to write an underdog story, and his Aston Villa team could even do better this season.

Last term, they finished inside the Premier League’s top four and were the last Premier League team to be eliminated from European competitions.

The Villans have become a winning machine that knows how to upset the odds. Their shock win at the Emirates against Arsenal earlier in the year was the reason why the Gunners did not win the Premier League title.

This season, they have started brilliantly as well and after five games, the Villans have won four matches, losing one.

Fans love to buy Aston Villa tickets because entertainment is often guaranteed in their matches, and they are a team that is difficult to stop.

The only club that has beaten them this season is Arsenal, and we expect Villa to challenge for the Premier League title again this season, as they did last campaign.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United failed to qualify for Europe last season, but Newcastle tickets will sell more if they return to the Champions League at the end of this campaign.

Eddie Howe has built a very competitive squad at Saint James Park and Newcastle is now being considered one of the teams who know how to win matches.

The Magpies played in the Champions League last season and that seemed to have affected their domestic performance and they failed to qualify for Europe.

However, with no European commitments this term, we expect them to storm back into the top four.

Despite fearing that they could fall foul of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, they managed to keep their best players, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes all attracting interest from top clubs across Europe.

They would now have to prove that playing in Europe last season will not be a  one-off and they can actually return to the top clubs competition on the continent.

Brighton

Brighton is another club that played in Europe last season and struggled, but they might be back at the end of this season.

The Seagulls started this season brilliantly, with their 31-year-old manager, Fabian Hürzeler, impressing in his first month at the club.

The German knows he has big shoes to fill after the club’s surprise decision not to continue with Roberto de Zerbi beyond last season.

Brighton tickets buyers are always entertained when they watch the team play and their fearless style, which has seen them beat Manchester United and pick up a draw at Arsenal means they truly could make the top four at the end of this season.

Conclusion

Finishing inside the top four is a big deal in Premier League football. If the current European campaigners do well, England might have more than four Champions League spots, but these teams will be vying for the final Champions League spot.
