Who will win the Premier League 2024/2025 Golden Boot?

17/07/2024

The Premier League has some of the world’s best goalscorers, and every season, the Golden Boot award winner race is as hot as ever.

England’s top flight is generally considered the best league in the world, and its level of difficulty and unpredictability is second to none.

For several seasons it was hard for a player to score up to 32 league goals in a season, and Mohamed Salah broke that barrier in 2018, but in the last two seasons, Erling Haaland has proven to be better than that.

The Norwegian moved to Manchester City in 2022 and has been a monster for them over the last two seasons.

Haaland won the Golden Boot with 36 goals in 35 games in 2023 and again last season by scoring 27 times, despite injuries hampering him for much of the campaign.

Haaland remains one of the best goalscorers in the world, and make no mistake, he can still dominate other attackers next term.

Because Norway failed to qualify for Euro 2024, most fans have been carried away by the performance of other players in the tournament, but Haaland remains a top striker in England’s top flight and Europe as a whole.

Will Haaland retain the crown?

In his two seasons in the Premier League, Haaland has been unstoppable, netting a combined 63 goals in the competition, and he is simply unstoppable.

It gets even scarier when you remember that the former Borussia Dortmund striker is just 23.

He has so much time to score many goals, and he certainly is not at the peak of his career yet.

Haaland was too good in his first season, and in his second campaign, he still delivered some terrific performances.

However, he was not as unstoppable as he was during his first campaign as a Premier League player.

He had his injuries, but winning the treble in his first campaign seems to have made him complacent, as he missed some glorious chances to score goals last season.

The Norwegian will keep getting the goals, but there is some question marks over if he can meet the level and standard he set in his first Premier League season.

Teams have also adapted their formation and now groom their defenders to deal with him in a better way, so Haaland can be stopped now unlike in his first season.

In this campaign, more teams will find a way to stop him than in 2023/2024 and that is why he might struggle to win the Golden Boot again.

Which player do Premier League tickets buyers believe can finish the upcoming season with more goals than the Norwegian? We cover some names in this article and the first person is:

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

Salah will always be in the conversation for the highest goalscorer in the Premier League because of his reputation.

The Egyptian, just like Haaland, was excellent in his first season in England and has since won three Golden Boots.

He remains a key player for Liverpool, and it seems Arne Slot is banking on him to lead his team back to the top of English football.

Salah loves to score goals, but he also makes them, and Liverpool has some of the best attackers in the Premier League, so he will get all the support he needs to find the back of the net regularly.

With at least 18 goals scored in the league every season since he joined Liverpool, the Egyptian King could claim what might be a last Golden Boot award before leaving Liverpool this season.

Cole Palmer, Chelsea

Palmer took a chance on himself last season and left Manchester City to join Chelsea and become a regular.

We knew he was a talented boy, but even he wouldn’t have expected to have achieved as much as he did in his first season on the Chelsea team.

He did not join them as a striker and did not play in the number nine role, yet the England international scored 22 times in 33 league games for the Blues.

His goals fired Chelsea back into Europe at the end of the season under Mauricio Pochettino. He will work under a new manager this term, but we expect Enzo Maresca to still get the best from him.

They worked together at the youth teams of Manchester City, so their relationship should be fruitful in London as well.

Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa

England’s hero at Euro 2024 was in fantastic form last season, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in the Premier League alone.

The former Brentford man has been linked to some of the biggest clubs in England for several seasons, but Villa has locked him down to a contract until 2028.

They will play in the Champions League next season and could be one of the dark horses because of Unai Emery's pedigree.

However, securing a return to the Champions League at the end of the season will require Watkins to score as many goals as he did in the last campaign or even more.

Watkins is now very comfortable in Villa and he will keep improving. He might win the Golden Boot next term.

Darwin Nunez, Liverpool

Nunez has flattered to deceive for much of his time at Liverpool following his big-money arrival from Benfica.

In his two seasons at the club, he has scored just 20 league goals combined for the Reds, but Nunez is a player who will improve.

In many games, the Uruguayan misses more than enough chances to score a hat trick, and that is not counting the number of times he has been unfortunate with the bar standing between him and scoring.

In all of this, he clearly improved last season and scored some audacious goals as well as important late strikes.

Arne Slot has already called him to inform him that he will be a key player in his system, and the Dutchman could be the coach to unlocks Nunez.

He has done a brilliant job with Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord, transforming the Mexican striker into one of the best strikers in Europe.

He can achieve the same feat with Nunez at Liverpool, and the Uruguay star has all the ingredients to become a successful striker in Europe if he gets a manager who can trust him.

Alexander Isak, Newcastle United

Isak is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and this explains why the likes of Arsenal has targeted him for several seasons now.

The Swedish international is one of the most efficient goalscorers in the Premier League and scored 21 times in the competition for Newcastle last season.

The Magpies have resisted serious temptation to sell him this summer for huge fees, and they will benefit from that next term.

Without European football, Eddie Howe’s side could compete for the league title and Isak’s goals will have a say in whether they achieve that goal or not.

Honourable mentions

There are several other attackers in the Premier League who have goals in them and can challenge for the Golden boot, including Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea, Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
