Harry Kane replacements Tottenham must consider signing

24/07/2023

Tottenham is still fighting hard to keep Harry Kane with them beyond this summer, but it looks pretty likely that the England captain is on his way out of the club.

Kane has singlehandedly kept Tottenham competitive for several seasons, and if he was not in the side last term, they might have battled relegation.

Spurs have failed to buy an understudy to the frontman, but he might force them to lose him this summer.

The Lilywhites have offered him a new deal, with one season left on his current contract, but Kane has not shown a willingness to extend his stay with them beyond this campaign.

The Englishman is now eyeing a move to Bayern Munich and has assured the Germans that he wants to join them.

Tottenham has rejected two bids for his signature and instead is pushing for him to extend his stay for some more seasons.

If Kane extends his Spurs deal, he is effectively deciding to retire at the club because he will not get another chance to escape from them.

Everyone knows he is one reason fans buy Spurs tickets, so it is understandable that the club wants to keep him, but now is the time to find a replacement for the Englishman.

There are several players in England and abroad who can join them and replace some of the goals Kane has scored over the years.

It will be challenging to find one, considering Kane has scored 280 career goals for Tottenham. He also scored 32 goals for them last season.

However, in this article, we cover names who can come to the Tottenham Stadium and do well for the Lilywhites.

Ivan Toney, Brentford

Toney is serving a lengthy ban for a breach of some betting rules, but he would be back with a bang.

The Brentford man scored 31 times in his first season in the Championship with Brentford and fired them into the Premier League.

In his first season in England's top flight, the striker netted 12 times from 33 games for the Bees.

However, last season, which was his second in the competition, he scored 20 league goals in 33 games before his ban started.

Toney is one of England's best strikers, and he keeps improving, making him one of the alternatives in their national team.

Spurs will be guaranteed goals if they add him to their squad in this transfer window, and he will go a long way to add some of the strikes a Harry Kane departure will make them lose.

Gonzalo Ramos, Benfica

Despite being just 22, Ramos has become one of the world's most recognisable strikers.

He did well to replace Darwin Nunez in the Portuguese side after the Uruguayan left for Liverpool at the start of last season.

Ramos made the news at the World Cup when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in a game and bagged a hat trick for Portugal.

He has continued to improve and scored 27 goals in 47 games for Benfica in all competitions last season.

He does not have experience in the Premier League as Toney does, but at 22, he has so much room for improvement, and Portuguese stars have generally done well in the Premier League.

He is likely to cost Spurs a lot of money, considering how much Liverpool spent on Nunez, but Ramos could be worth the money.

Jonathan David, Lille

It is a surprise that David still plays for Lille three seasons after they beat some top clubs to add the Canadian striker to their squad.

Lille has been one of the best breeding grounds for talents in Europe, and David has done well to replace Victor Osimhen at the French club.

The striker continues to get better, and surely it is just a matter of time before he moves to a bigger European club.

David Scored 25 league goals for Lille last season and now has 58 goals for the French club since he joined them in 2020.

His form at the World Cup left much more to be desired, but David is just 23 and will only get better.

Several clubs have him on their radar, and Spurs would be smart to snap him up for a reasonable fee in this transfer window.

He will not be as prolific as Kane is, but he has the potential to be a leading scorer in the Premier League.

Randal Kolo Muani, Eintracht Frankfurt

Muani became a global star with his fine performances for France at the last World Cup, although he missed an important chance in the final.

Since last season, the attacker has attracted the attention of some of the best clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

Muani was in superb form for Frankfurt last term, as he scored 15 times and provided 11 assists for the German side in the Bundesliga alone.

If Spurs had another player apart from Kane with this stat, they could have made the top four.

Kane is also a key player for them because of his knack for providing plenty of assists for teammates during the season.

Muani is a player who can do both, just like the Englishman and might just be the ideal replacement for the England captain.

Mehdi Taremi, FC Porto

Considering more experienced options, one man Spurs should look at is FC Porto star Mehdi Taremi.

Taremi is already 31, making him a veteran in the game and some fans might frown at the suggestion of bringing him to England at this stage of his career.

However, the FC Porto striker continues to deliver top performances, suggesting he is a player we can trust to deliver for Tottenham.

In the last few seasons, the Iranian has been one of his club's finest performers in the Champions League.

He scored 31 goals for Porto last season, including 22 in the league and will likely do well in England.

This is because he is much more experienced and has undergone different challenging game situations.

He will also likely come cheaper than most of the options on this list. Spurs may have to sign more than one striker to replace Kane, and it would be great if Taremi is one of them.

Anastasios Douvikas, Utrecht

Another option for Spurs, which might be cut-price, is last season's Dutch league top scorer, Douvikas.

The Greek star took advantage of the Netherlands' top flight missing an important goal-scorer to lead the scoring charts with 20 league goals.

That stat does not inspire much confidence, and most Tottenham fans do not know about the striker, but that does not mean he will flop.

At 23, Douvikas is far from the finished article yet and will likely make more progress in his development if he moves to London for the Lilywhites.

Spurs will have a hard time replacing Kane, but they can groom one or two young strikers to fill the boot of the Englishman eventually.

Douvikas should be one of them, as the 6'2 frontman can eventually dominate the scoring department at the club.

Replacing Kane is one of the hardest things Spurs can do, but the Englishman seems to have reached the end of the road and the earlier they identify a replacement for him, the better it will be.

Kane needs to move to Bayern to add a few team medals to his cabinet, and Spurs know this.

If they delay replacing him, they will hurt their chances of success in the new term under their latest manager.
